Good morning everyone! The last 24 hours have been incredible. Not only did we hit our funding goal, but we are pretty close to unlocking the first stretch goal too. I cant believe how quickly this project is growing. Thank you all.
Today's update will be giving you all a sneak peak into the spirit beast system. Obviously the book will have more in depth information about the system and how it works, but for now I will give you the basics.
Spirit beasts are creatures with the ability to cross between two planes of existence at will. The plane where your game is taking place, and the spirit plane. The spirit plane is solely inhabited by these creatures. It is a safe haven for them where they can rest, relax and grow. Spirit beasts can be summoned from the spirit plane by the player character almost instantly, but beware, crossing the plane takes a lot of effort. If you are constantly summoning and banishing your beast between planes, they will grow tired and distrustful of you and they will not grow or gain any affinity to you. Treat them with love and care, like you would any other mount or pet, and they will gain additional abilities and benefits.
Each spirit beast has 4 affinity levels. It is up to the GM to decide whether you are your spirit beast have grown together enough to progress to the next tier and gain more abilities and bond. Every spirit beast has its own perks and traits.
In regards to appearance, they usually appear as much larger versions of creatures you would be familiar with, but they can appear fey, spectral, fiend, demon or even just like large versions of the creature.
Please find an example stat block below of one of the creatures from the book.
